West Bloomfield Synagogue Attack
In West Bloomfield, Michigan, authorities say a suspect is dead after a shooting combined with a vehicle ramming at Temple Israel synagogue.
Law enforcement sources report the driver appeared to deliberately steer around security barriers before crashing into the building’s front entrance, sparking a fire. Oakland County’s sheriff said no injuries have been confirmed so far, though investigators believe the impact was intentional. Synagogue security confronted the suspect after the crash, while police flooded the area and urged the public to stay away.
Michigan State Police also announced increased patrols at other houses of worship nearby as a precaution, and local Jewish institutions entered lockdown.
The Jewish Federation of Detroit and Governor Gretchen Whitmer both issued statements calling the incident heartbreaking and emphasizing that Jewish residents should be able to practice their faith in safety. In New York City, police said they are deploying extra officers to synagogues and Jewish sites out of caution as officials continue to monitor developments.
